Microwave turntable? Why does a micowave turntable turn in either direction, and with no apparent consistanecy??/ ruthiecrue2 replied: "my microwave turntable only turns in one direction. clockwise."
daddysnurse replied: "Usually just in one direction.... If it is built-in, it has a motor to make it consistently one speed and direction. I don't know as much about the kind you put into the microwave that don't come with it."
babyger71 replied: "so the waves heat the food evenly."
spackler replied: "I don't know, but it makes it awfully hard to play records on."
nermil replied: "its the alien technology"
azul_uk2006 replied: "it senses what you put in so it turns that way to heat better"
Linc replied: "It's not random. It always turns in the opposite direction than it did the last time. Check it out. Put something in there, start it, shut it off, start it again. It'll reverse direction."
lostinlove replied: "haha, you so crazy, but i like your way of thinking... it's the little things in life that make it great!!"
garielee2 replied: "So that we may ponder this in our daily lives...Works doesn't it!" Why won't my microwave turntable stop spinning? I have GE microwave and the turntable is in motion when the door is off and the oven is not being used. The only time it does not spin is with the door open. GE's website is very difficult to search through and there is no mention of such an issue in the handbook. There is an on/off switchh on the microwave, but I've already tried that. Any ideas? Butterfly Lover replied: "The only thing I can suggest would be to unplug it when it isn't being used. Sounds like it has a mind of its own."
orion replied: "you have a bad door switch call a appliance repair shop it will cost any where from $150 to $250 to fix" GE Profile Spacemaker XL 1800 Microwave: turntable grinds and turns more slowly. Is this easily repairable? Grinding noise started about a month ago. Turn speed has decreased from 3 RPMs to about 2 RPMs. Grinding noise does not occur if turntable is off. Everything else seems to be working correctly. Is there a part I can replace myself, or must i call for service?
Thanks for any assistance! groingo replied: "Check to see that the plate and rollers are super clean and the surface they roll on as well.
If not it could be the gearbox itself which means you now have an excuse to get a new one or go to your Goodwill store and pick up a good used one or you could bear with it till it craps out...should actually cook better going slower."
KirksWorld replied: "If the oven is large enough, they make windup turntables that will do the job and will likely be far less expensive than genuine replacement parts." need new microwave turntable? i was wondering if anyone out there knew about any great microwave turntables. the thing is i need one thats not glass that rests on those prongs and rings cuz we have a very very oldschool microwave in our house. i know some of you may say "just update the microwave" but without going too off topic that is simply not an option.
currently we have one turntable that u simply wind-up and it starts rotating once you put the plate on it. are there are any other devices like this except better quality and dont break down as easily? LG intellowave microwave turntable turns? I have a LG Intellowave Microwave, lately the turn table is jerky and I am not sure what it could be?
I think it's the roller base the glass plate sits on. Can anyone help me?
Cheers gilloz replied: "Some things to try or look at. Verify that the rollers on the ring base do not have dried food particles on them in that they can't turn freely. Also, make sure that the items placed on the glass turntable are balanced, as oppose to sitting on the edge."
Mike B replied: "You would have to unplug it & take the cover off to inspect the underside of the oven cavity. You should see a small motor, which probably runs a belt to a pulley directly under the oven, which would have the gear inside the oven which turns your plate. Check to see if any of the screws came loose, either on the motor or the pulley housing, it may also be the belt slipping, but be careful around the high voltage circuit. These things have a lot more bite than a tv." Combination microwave turntable not turning!? I have a Sharp R-85ST Combination Microwave/fan oven/grill which I have been using very happily for about 1 1/2 years, using the fan oven at least once a day and odd 1 minute bursts from the micro to heat toddler's milk.
The turntable has stopped turning! What does this mean, is everything about to conk out on it? I am aware that the turntable helps stuff cook evenly, especially when using the microwave, I am just worried that the whole thing will now die on me! And is it worth getting fixed? It wasn't cheap, and I am on a limited income! Can't do without it, especially the oven, as I said I use it daily. I am worried that it would have to be taken away to be fixed. Yes I DO have a normal cooker but I have a disabled child who cannot understand danger, I placed my Sharp well above her reach for safety, I really can't do without it...
Jayktee it's the R-85ST! I don't know if this oven has any plastic bits at all, it is stainless steel inside and out, even the turntable is metal. The turntable slots onto a thing in the centre and has wheels under the outside rim, if you know what I mean, and they seem fine.
Oh, forgot to say I can turn the turntalbe manually (though not when it is on lol)
Oh, forgot to say I can turn the turntable manually (though not when it is on lol) dave o replied: "did you get it from new? if so you may be covered under consumer law re: how long the equipment should last, don't confuse this with the the warranty. contact trading standards for further advice.
as you are on a low income you may be able to get help from a local charity or social services.
good luck!"
podge replied: "Have you checked that the turntable is correctly seated so that the turning mechanism is properly engaged."
S. E. Charles replied: "The turntable has a separate motor under the unit(inside) that is quite small..... They do go out from time to time.... Just like a light bulb will.... No need to panic... Yes, it is probably NOT worth getting fixed as those motors can run up to $75 + the service call.... But it is NOT DANGEROUS!!!!! Just remember to set the timer for shorter periods of time on items that require long cook times and turn it around the other way....
They used to sell something like a timer that went in a microwave to turn the plate a long time ago.... Haven't looked for one lately, so I do not know if they are still around.... They were available in most grocery stores that sold kitchen utensils.....
Hope this helps.....
18 yrs home appliance repair......"
cristanine replied: "There are some models that run on a very thin belt that can get worn after so many uses because of the weight of the bowls or what ever you put on that turn table.
If you remove the cover on your microwave you will see the pulley and the belt. replace the belt and that should get you going again.
In some cases not all, I have used rubber bands and they work, but you need to get the right length for that."
jayktee96 replied: "Most manufacturers now abide by a 2 year European warranty, I would phone Sharp's customer service and see what they have to say. Notwithstanding any warranty, various appliances have to last a certain length of time, and 1 1/2 years is not long enough for a microwave. My Panasonic Combi is still in daily use after nearly 18 years! You don't say which model, but it may just be the plastic coupling that has melted, can you turn the tray easily by hand. This may help...http://www.fixya.com/support/t144398-sharp_r930ak"
Firesparky replied: "If you can turn the turntable then I would say it's the drive belt cheap & easy to replace"
hapa1 replied: "just follow s e charles advice most foods tell you to turn the food anyway it's safe has he says this is only for micro cooking the oven you use as a normal oven"
luka replied: "open the microwave box and on the inside there is a fuse,go to your electrical store and buy the exact one,and replace." Can you buy replacement glass microwave turntables? My son broke the glass plate turntable for my microwave. Is there anywhere you can buy replacements? The microwave is not even a year old and it was a great deal so I would hate to throw it out or pay more for the plate than I did the whole microwave! Does anyone have any ideas what I could do? Voodoo Doll replied: "Check on Ebay. Someone just may be selling one on there. Make sure you check the make and model of the microwave though, to ensure it will fit.
If you live in a Craigslist city, you might be able to post a listing on there soliciting one at little or no cost. I've gotten some cool free stuff on my local Craigslist.
